Lav Diaz and Krzysztof Kieslowski at the 22nd Auteur Film Festival

Auteur Film Festival again decided to include the revolutionaries of world cinema, Lav Diaz and Krzysztof Kieslowski, in its programme.

Lav Diaz, a Filipino director also known as the “father of Filipino cinema”, is one of the key figures in modern film-making, who has, since the late nineties, and owing to digital cameras,  been directing films that are freeing cinema from the industry, and the Filipino people from their colonial fate.

As part of the Bonde a Part selection, two of his movies will be shown: the winner of this year’s Venetian Golden Lion, the four hour long film The Woman Who Left, and the winner of the “Alfred Bauer” award at the latest Berlin Film Festival, the eight hour long film A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery.

Žena koja je otišla (Ang Babaeng Humayo, 2016)

The Woman Who Left (Ang Babaeng Humayo, 2016)

The Woman Who Left is a film inspired by Tolstoy’s short story “God Sees the Truth, But Waits”, and talks about the fight of a woman who has been unfairly imprisoned. It will be shown on Monday, the 28th of November, in Belgrade Youth Center (Dom Omladine), beginning at 19:30. The Bande a Part selection includes 5 films apart from the aforementioned.

As part of the side programme of the 22nd Auteur Film Festival, there will be an homage to Krzysztof Kieslowski, marking the 20th anniversary of his death. To that end, the Polish director’s most significant work will be shown at the Yugoslav Film Archive (Muzej Jugoslovenske kinoteke) in Kosovska 11: the entirety of the television series Dekalog. Kieslowski did each of the ten episodes of Dekalog with a different director of photography, using different filming techniques.

The 22nd Auter Film Festival will be held from the 25th of November to the 3rd of December. The main venue again will be Belgrade Youth Center (Dom Omladine), and it will also be held in the theatre of the Cultural Centre of Belgrade, the old and new buildings of the Yugoslav Film Archive, the “Fontana” and “Dragan Gaga Nikolić”- UK Parobrod cinemas, Cultural centre “Studentski grad”, Art theatre Kolarceva zaduzbina, and the new venue of UK Palilula .

The tickets for the 22nd Auter Film Festival can be found at all participating venues’ ticket offices, while all details on the programme can be found at www.faf.rs.
